How to redeem a Google Play gift card and check its region

Redeeming a Google Play gift card starts with two separate checks: whether the card fits your country and currency, and which Google Account will receive the credit. Keep those questions separate when choosing a card or investigating an error.
Check country and currency before buying
Google limits redemption to the country in which a gift card was purchased. Its currency must match your Play Store currency and payment profile. Matching currencies alone do not establish country eligibility. Travellers may need to return to the relevant country before redeeming.
On a product page, read the redemption region alongside the denomination. For a gift, confirm these details with the recipient before choosing an amount. Treat the brand name, country and currency as three separate parts of your purchase checklist.
Redeem the code in your browser
Use the following sequence when you are ready to add the credit. The account review is especially useful if you share a device or keep personal and work accounts signed in.
- Open the Google Play redemption page linked below.
- Type your gift code and select Redeem.
- Check the Google Account displayed as the recipient of the credit. Pause if it is not the account you intended to use.
- Confirm once you have checked the account details.
Use the error message to choose your next step
Keep the exact message available while checking the relevant issue:
- Invalid code: check that the code is for Google Play, verify the characters, and omit spaces or dashes. If it remains invalid, ask the seller or issuer about activation. Google cannot activate a retail card for a store.
- Already redeemed: inspect the balance on the account used for the original redemption. The same code cannot add credit again. If the credit is missing or the message appears incorrect, use Google support.
- Country error: compare your location, the card’s country and its currency requirements. Use Google’s country-specific help if those details appear correct.

Make your shortlist in this order: Google Play product, redemption country, currency, then amount. Comparing discounts first can distract from the details that determine whether the card suits the recipient.
